Joan Sharma RBSA
Her early work was in wood and she aimed to work accurately from clay models to produce realistic human forms. Over the years she has moved to working mainly in stone and has enjoyed becoming freer and increasingly abstract. She starts with an initial idea and then develops this directly with the stone. She enjoys the process of using hand tools to shape the bulk and find the lines, smooth curves and rough surfaces that feel “right” for the material.
