Ann-Marie’s inspiration comes from the light and colours of the Hebrides. She spends part of the year living on the Isle of Mull, surrounded by sea and the elements. She tries to capture the atmosphere and spirit of the place, which is felt rather than reproduced.
She use thick impasto, sand and other materials mixed with paint to impart a tactile quality and reflect light. She applies paint directly and energetically with knives, rags and hands, rarely a brush, to make varied marks.
Ann-Marie exhibits regularly in Birmingham at the RBSA and also on the Isle of Mull. She is a member of South West Mull Makers, a group of 10 running an art and craft gallery.
