Petra Röhr-Rouendaal

Many of my paintings and sculptures have been influenced by my fourteen years in southern Africa and subsequent visits to other African countries, drawing inspiration from the colours, the spirit and the way of life.

My sketches (I never walk around without a sketchbook) often provide the inspiration for my final artwork. I try to express my personal reaction to a subject, which in my case means I often use different techniques or styles. I work in oil, acrylics, watercolour and do collages and drawings.  I have only recently started to make clay figures, often combined with natural materials.

I regularly exhibit and have had exhibitions in
Germany, Iran, India, South Africa, Botswana, Scotland and England, thirteen of them were solo exhibitions. I have won a number of art prizes.

I also work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrate children’s and educational books and facilitate visual aids production workshops in developing countries, mainly in
Africa.

I studied Fine Art in
Hamburg, Germany and later did a postgraduate degree in printmaking at Brighton University and studied art therapy part-time.
