Keith Turley

Born in Birmingham, the artist had over thirty years experience as a teacher of Art, before retiring in 2005 to concentrate on painting.  Alongside the job of teaching, Keith regularly exhibited work and carried out commissions. Early successes included winning first prize at the Midlands Open 25, and also the Sandwell Jubilee Medal, as well as one-man shows at the Edgbaston New Art Gallery and the Birmingham M.A.C.   In the 90`s, he put on three one man shows at the Hexagon Theatre Reading.

These latter shows led to a long relationship with the Heritage Foundation and the British Comedy Society, who seek to honour late great show business names and also raise money for charity. The artist has carried out numerous commissions of this nature for commemorative blue plaque events, most of them based in London. Many such works are on permanent display at Pinewood Studios. This work still continues, and has extended into book illustration for such subjects as the T.V. series “Dad`s Army” and the Carry On films.

Though he has welcomed a steady stream of such commissions, he has made more time recently to explore portraiture in a more open ended way, often on a larger scale, with a view to exhibiting them in mixed shows. To this end, such works have been featured in many RBSA Open shows, including the Prize Exhibitions of 2008 (Highly Commended), 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Since 2008, Keith has been an active member of the Dudley Society of Artists, and he also delivers talks and portrait demonstrations to other artists groups.
