Helen Appleby

I am a textile artist. I use fine silks, organdie, muslin and paper with threads, pressed flowers and paint. My work is influenced by my garden, woods, fields, rivers, literature and family happenings.

I attempt to capture sights and moods and thoughts and then translate them into delicate hand and machine embroideries. Often these appear to have a Japanese influence. I like sweeping curves, emphatic lines and 3D effects and I am interested in opposites, such as tensions and relaxations, strength and frailty and dark and light. My aim is to create harmonious and elegant compositions.
